Espagne (1938)

Painted by:

Salvador Dalí

The outbreak of the civil war in Spain in 1936,
had its influence on the work of Dali in the next years.
"Espagne" (1938) is one of the paintings which reflects the vision of Dali on the civil war.

Disappearing figures remain a topic in Dalí's oeuvre.
The rocks on the beach of his region of birth was an inspiration source for creating a lot of paintings.
In the painting "Enchanted Beach With Three Fluid Graces",
Dalí shows his fascination for the nature in his home country as well as for the ancient greek goddesses.

Yet a better example what the environment of his youth with him can do is the painting "The Three Ages".
It shows a projection of his phantasy that always had been stimulated by its surroundings.
The faces represent the episodes in one's life : Old Age, Adolescence and Infancy.

Already in 1929, Dalí began with painting of invisible objects.
Objects or human beings who don't exist became reality through the sublimation of Dali's phantasies.
In the painting of "The Invisible Man" no man existed in reality.
