Poésie d'Amérique - Les athlètes cosmiques (1943)
Painted by:
Salvador Dalí
During the civil war in his home country Spain Dali fled with his wife Gala to Virgina in the United States.
In paintings made in this period essential aspects like color, space and even landscape go still back to his memories of Catalonia,
although the persons and figures are typical american.
Far before any other art painter could do, he dared to paint a Coca-Cola bottle,
paid attention to the problem of the black population or spotted with the american passion to play football.
All those aspects can be viewed in the painting shown above.
Meanwhile the ongoing war had his influence on the painter's subconsciousness.
He had a vision of a new type of human being that would guard mankind
from now on for the largest fears in the world.
The world as a breaking egg, observed by an anxious little child seeking protection of his mother.
It is surrealism in its most pure form.
